Journalist shares if West Ham United can sign Isaiah Jones in January
West Ham are among the host of clubs vying for the signature of Middlesbrough defender Isaiah Jones in the January window, as reported by TeamTalk.
The likes of Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Southampton have also joined the race to sign the 23-year-old, but Teamtalk’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has suggested that clubs can forget about signing him in January.
He has emerged as one of Boro’s most “prized assets” and has made leaps and bounds of progress under Michael Carrick.
“No Middlesbrough player has benefited more from Michael Carrick’s appointment than Isaiah Jones,” said Bailey.
“Carrick has switched him to right midfield from right back. And I am told that he is impressing a lot of clubs.
“He was already on the radar of the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham. But now others are keen too including the likes of Wolves, Leicester and Southampton. But they can forget about a January raid.”
Jones played as a wing-back last season and ended with nine assists for the club.
This season, he has been used as a right winger at times. He has scored three goals and provided three assists in the Championship so far.
David Moyes has a reputation for signing players from the Championship, and he has earned a fair degree of success, with Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen being prime examples.
So, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Hammers do make a move for the player in January or next summer.
But do they need him at the moment? Moyes has Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson as two recognized right full-backs, while Thilo Kehrer can also play there if needed.
If Coufal is sold next summer or in January, then it could open up the space for any potential new arrival.
Boro are unlikely to lose him in January, and any potential club may have to pay a big transfer fee to lure him away.
