Jordan questions whether West Ham should want Jesse Lingard back
TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has questioned West Ham United’s interest in Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard who looks set to leave Old Trafford.
The Hammers had previously been linked with a move for the 29-year-old who enjoyed a stunning run of form while on loan at the London Stadium last season.
Lingard has just six months left on his deal at Manchester United which could see him available for a cut-price in this transfer window but Jordan isn’t convinced that the Irons want him back.
“I’m not sure West Ham want him back,” Jordan said on TalkSPORT‘s White and Jordan show.
“If they did, then the bottom line is that no way Manchester United can ask for £25million because they’re not going to get it are they?
“So you’re in a situation where the player is going to sit there and take all the benefit of no transfer fee.
“That’s the market you’re in, that’s the situation you find yourself in, do something about it.”
No sequel required
Lingard’s brief spell in a West Ham shirt last season was perhaps the best cameo ever seen in the Premier League.
He scored nine goals along with four assists in the league which saw him earn a recall to the England squad under Gareth Southgate.
But while a return might be a fairytale to some Hammers fans, there is a very good chance it wouldn’t be as smooth sailing as it was 12 months ago.
West Ham currently have one of the most free-flowing attacks in the Premier League and all of their attackers are returning good performances.
Even with Said Benrahma away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Nikola Vlasic, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals have stepped up to support Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.
Right now probably isn’t the time to be disturbing that attack with the focus required in defence where Moyes is light on options.
