Joe Cole blown away by one West Ham ace, compares him to Gazza
Joe Cole believes that West Ham star Declan Rice has changed from a quality defensive midfielder into an all-round box-to-box player.
Speaking on BT Sport before the Irons beat Chelsea in the Premier League, the former England midfielder heaped praise on Rice.
He even compared him to England and football icon Paul Gascoigne.
He said: “Declan has been outstanding, but his role’s developed. “He’s brimming with confidence; he’s developed his game.
“He’s finding more positions and breaking the lines, he’s getting better and better. This is almost Paul Gascoigne like [driving run against Brighton].
“He’s a fantastic ball player.”
Huge praise for a huge player.
Cole is right about Rice; he just seems to get better and better with each passing game and has added some new elements to his repertoire.
This season he has wandered forward more and more, has popped up with goals and assists and just appears to be loving it at the London Stadium.
Rice was excellent last season, but he mainly broke up the play and allowed Tomas Soucek to burst forward and cause problems.
That seems to have changed this season, and this was some fascinating analysis from Cole, who used clips to highlight some of Rice’s key moments this season.
Certainly, the future looks very bright for the England man, and we can’t wait to see what else he can add to his game before the end of the season.
He is well on the way to becoming a complete midfielder, and the Hammers should cherish him.
