Jim White suggests West Ham were big players in Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham sacking
Jim White has suggested Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager because they are behind West Ham in the Premier League table.
The official Spurs club website announced on Monday morning that they had parted ways with Mourinho and the news was the talk of the airwaves.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show [10:45, 19/04/21] Jim White and Simon Jordan clashed over whether West Ham’s usurption of Spurs this season has contributed to the decision taken by the club.
Here is the exchange in full.
“Would he be sacked because of where they are? Seventh this morning, won 17 out of 32,” White said.
Simon Jordan hit back, “Where should they be then, should they be above Man[chester] City, Man[chester] United, Chelsea?
White: “They should be where West Ham are.”
Jordan: “Well West Ham are an exception that doesn’t prove the rule, there’s always an exception.”
White: “They should be where West Ham are or maybe Leicester [City], third or fourth. They’re five points behind West Ham, six points behind Leicester.
Jordan: “They are about where they should be.”
Mourinho masterclass? It’s the Moyes show now
Who’d have thought Moyes could prove to be one of the main contributors to the demise of Mourinho and Spurs.
When Moyes returned to the London Stadium in 2019 there was a sense of dread and despair as we reverted back to a previous manager that had not exactly set the place alight, while Spurs had a world-class coach in a shiny new stadium.
But after securing our Premier League status at the back end of last season we have gone from strength to strength under the Scot to currently sit fourth in the Premier League, while Spurs are languishing down in seventh, five points behind us.
We’re not privvy to the exact details behind his sacking but surely the sight of the Irons above Spurs with six games remaining is a sore point that has ultimately led Daniel Levy to wield the axe on Mourinho.
It’s great to see and no less than they deserve after Sunday night’s news that they have joined the European Super League with 11 other self-serving ‘elite’ sides. [BBC]
