Jim White suggests West Ham set for big finish to transfer window, Simon Jordan reacts
Jim White has backed West Ham for a big finish to the transfer window during a discussion over Jesse Lingard’s future with Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.
The pair debated the merits of the 28-year-old staying at Manchester United with less than two weeks left until transfer deadline day.
During Friday morning’s [20/08/21] live broadcast, Jordan posed: “Why haven’t West Ham done more to sign him?”

White said: “I’ve got a feeling West Ham will do something, they might well pony up between now and August 31st.”
Jordan: “[On whether West Ham will sign a striker] You would think so but then West Ham are spending time trying to sign centre-backs aren’t they?”
White: “It’s a crucial time for Jesse, does he stay at Manchester United and maybe risk not playing as often as he wants, or does he go to West Ham and get the chance he needs.
“The bigger question is would David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady, yes those three, go to the price?”
Jordan: “Does he want to go? I’m not sure he wants to go to West Ham.”

Fingers crossed
We’re hoping White is right and Jordan is wrong.
We need a big end to the transfer window, or we could be left ruing our mistakes in January or at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Last season’s sixth-place finish was an unbelievable achievement, and a minor miracle really, as we fought our way to Europe with a small squad.
On top of that, we sold Sebastien Haller in January to leave us with Michail Antonio as our only senior striking option.
Predictably, he got injured, which meant having to reshuffle the pack in the attack.
One of the vital components of that forward line, and hero of our second half to the season, Lingard, is not even back at the club.
That means we actually have fewer players this season, despite accumulating at least six more games in the Europa League.
We need new signings, and fast.
