Jim White stunned as Alex Crook moots Tim Steidten to quit West Ham United

Jim White was left stunned as talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook suggested that Tim Steidten could quit as West Ham technical director.

Steidten was only appointed to the role at the beginning of July, having previously worked in a similar role at Bayer Leverkusen, as per the official West Ham website.

But Crook believes the German could leave the London Stadium due to the “clear issue” between him and manager David Moyes.

“It looks like there is a clear issue involving David Moyes and Tim Steidten, I think really because of his expertise when it comes to the European market,” Crook said live on talkSPORT.

“There seems to be definite pushback I’m told from David Moyes in terms of the recommendations of the new technical director. I wonder if that is because Moyes has loyalty to the likes of Mark Noble and Rob Newman, who seem to have been sidelined.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if this led to the departure, even this early in his tenure, of Steidten. Because you look at it, if he’s not having the say that he wanted, then maybe he would start to question, ‘well what am I actually doing here?’”

White then responded: “Yeah, as technical director, this is his field.”

Frustrating times

These really are frustrating times for seemingly everyone associated with West Ham, which is very strange considering how they should be on a major high after both winning the Europa Conference League and staying in the Premier League.

However, since then, club captain and star man Declan Rice has left to join Arsenal, and the club have yet to sign a replacement.

Filling that gap in midfield will be key to the Hammers having a good season next time out, but it seems that it will be a difficult achievement given the issues between Moyes and recent recruit Steidten.

They may have their differences when it comes to new signings, but time is running out for them as the new Premier League season rapidly approaches.

It is most certainly time for the pair to settle those differences and bring in at least one new midfielder, perhaps even on a short-term basis, before then working things out in the long-term.

In other West Ham news, a Hammers player has emerged as a “cheaper” option in one European club’s pursuit of a new striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.
