Jim White shares stunning details of West Ham United new contract offer for Declan Rice

Declan Rice has been offered a staggering eight year contract at West Ham worth an initial £200,000 per week on a rising scale to match inflation, according to Jim White.

The Hammers are desperate to keep hold of their star midfielder amid interest in a nine-figure deal this summer [Telegraph], but so far have been unable to agree terms on a new deal.

Now White, speaking on talkSPORT [May 11, 10:50] has shared the stunning details he has been told about the offer on the table for the England international from the club.

“Declan Rice has been offered an eight-year deal at West Ham United worth £200,000 per week on a rising scale to match inflation,” he said. “An eight year deal, worth £200,000 per week. At this stage he is showing no inclination to sign it.

“There is a belief that the eight-year deal could become a ten-year deal, if Declan and his people wanted such a deal worth £200,000 per week.

“So would they sell? There’s a belief within the Declan Rice camp that he could get between £300-400,000 per week elsewhere, whether that’s true or not remains to be seen.”

Wow

That is a staggering contract offer, but it’s obvious why Rice hasn’t signed if those are the terms being offered to him currently.

Rice already has three years remaining on his contract at the club and wants Champions League football, but he currently sees no chance of that at the London Stadium.

Signing for another decade would essentially leave him to the club’s demands for the rest of his career, something he could come to regret if they don’t push on as they want to and as he hopes.

The money is good, especially with the rising scale aspect, but it’s not about money for him and he can earn that sort of cash at any of the clubs that can afford to take him.

It’s great to see the club trying their best to keep him, but it seems as though they’re making offers simply for the visuals at this point because anyone with sense knows nobody would sign those terms.
