Jim White highlights ‘genuine concern’ for West Ham United in relegation battle after loss v Tottenham Hotspur

Jim White believes there is now a “genuine concern” that West Ham could be playing Championship football after their loss to Tottenham on Sunday (19 February).

The Hammers fell into the relegation zone, two points adrift of safety after their 13th Premier League defeat of the season with just 15 games remaining in the season.

And speaking about the game on talkSPORT (20 February, 10:09am) with Simon Jordan and Martin O’Neill, White insisted that they are not too good to go down and their record against better sides this season is a real problem.

West Ham

“Two wins in 13 league games since October,” he said. “They shouldn’t think they’re too good to go down. Not for one moment.

“I was looking at it, they’ve got five league wins all season. Bournemouth, Everton, Villa, Fulham and Wolves. None of the big boys. So when they meet some of the big boys, they wilt. They can’t do it.

“And I think there’s genuine concern for West Ham fans, they’re looking at Championship football.”

Trouble

West Ham have really been poor this season, no matter how you want to look at it, and there is trouble brewing at the club.

The fans have turned on David Moyes, with a large majority wanting him to leave, but even if he does go there are no obvious candidates to replace him at this point.

But at this point he has proven that he can no longer motivate this team to get them to perform at the level required to be where we’re supposed to be in the table.

Before we run out of time to get out of trouble, the board has to make a decision and get him out so that whoever comes in to replace him has time to actually make a difference to our future.

White is right, there is genuine concern that West Ham could be in trouble for the remainder of this season and be facing Championship football next season just a year after being in a European semi-final, and it’s not good enough.
