Jim White drops two major West Ham United transfer updates after text with agent

Jim White has shared an insight into West Ham United and their late bids for two massive January transfers.

The talkSPORT host was messaged by an agent involved in deals to sign Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips.

Deals were said to be in place totalling up to €100million (£83million), but too many people were involved and nothing was confirmed on deadline day.

Speaking live on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan this morning (03 February), the host shared the text message he had received.

“An agent who was involved in all of that messaged me saying, I think this was Phillips or maybe Nunez – €45million euros plus 5million euros in add ons,” he said.

“A deal was in place for the other player, which I presume is Phillips €50million plus 10million euros in add ons, but there are too many agents involved, too many individuals involved and the whole thing got confused and didn’t happen.”

Priority.

Nunez was the one name that everyone was desperate to see come through the doors before the deadline slammed shut.

Suggested bids for Phillips and Raphinha at Leeds were nice, but did we really need them last month? Those areas are covered and our defence, as well as the final third, is lacking seriously.

So, with too many people getting involved and sticking their fingers in the pies, you have to ask, why were so many bids thrown about?

If the Irons would have concentrated fully on Nunez in the final week of the window, surely something will have been worked out.

David Moyes has thrown his support behind the board this week, but if we blow our chance at the top four or going far in the Europa League all over again, serious questions will need answering.
