Jhon Duran agent updates on West Ham United pursuit of Aston Villa striker

The agent of Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has admitted that West Ham United have “been talking” to his client in recent weeks.

It has been reported across the window that the most likely destination for the Colombia international this summer is the London Stadium. A deal in the region of £40million [Fabrizio Romano, 17 July] has been discussed but as yet, nothing has come to fruition.

Speaking to AS (23 July), the 20-year-old’s agent Jonathan Herrera shared a fresh update on his client’s future.

“There is a great interest on the part of West Ham, he has been talking to them and the club,” he said. “Let’s see what happens in the rest of the market.

“In the end there has been a lot of interest from several clubs in Europe for the players, but we are trying to handle this in the best way for the clubs.

“There is still time left on the market and we are going to make the best decision.”

West Ham United decision on Jhon Duran edging closer

The future of Duran evidently seems to be anywhere other than at Aston Villa.

Although when called upon, the Colombia international played fairly well, Unai Emery failed to entrust the attacker enough across the course of the season.

Granted, this is largely due to the performances of Ollie Watkins but there still could have been the odd occasion where Duran was included.

The Hammers have been the team most consistently linked with a move for Duran [GiveMeSport, 21 July] but other suitors such as Chelsea have also been mentioned.

The attacker scored eight goals across all competitions last term and would no doubt be a solid addition to whichever team he chooses to move to.

Although nothing is set in stone yet, it’s evident that Julen Lopetegui needs attacking reinforcement this summer.

Especially if someone such as Michail Antonio exits the London Stadium [GZH, 29 June] this summer.

Duran’s addition would improve the Hammers’ attack tenfold and would allow them to develop a new focal point for their team and perhaps even take some pressure off the shoulders of his teammates.
