Jermain Defoe shares West Ham message after studio appearance vs Bournemouth

Jermain Defoe has hailed the confidence that West Ham are playing with after their point against Bournemouth.

West Ham will be frustrated that they managed just a point against the Cherries, but it was a performance to be proud of in the eyes of Defoe.

The former Hammers star was analysing the game for Premier League Productions and expressed how West Ham are “growing with confidence”, as showcased by their recent results.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have taken 11 points from their last six Premier League games, having suffered just one defeat in their last eight across all competitions.

West Ham fans should be optmistic after Jermain Defoe comments

West Ham are in a relegation battle because of the lack of form they had in the first half of the season, but more so, the lack of confidence.

Even the likes of Jarrod Bowen had been struggling, showcasing the issue with mentality that Nuno was faced with at the London Stadium.

But that has changed since the turn of the year, with West Ham having lost just three times since then, albeit two of those defeats coming against two of their relegation rivals.

With that said, belief is now starting to emerge for the Irons, and Defoe noticed that when sharing a message via his personal Instagram account after their draw with the Cherries.

He said: “Great to be in the studio yesterday covering the West Ham versus Bournemouth game, my two former clubs.

“West Ham growing with confidence game by game, and Bournemouth having an amazing season, despite the fact that they lost so many key players.”

Stats show where West Ham must improve

Getting a draw against Bournemouth is a good result for any side this season, but West Ham will feel as though they could have had so much more.

And based on their xG from the clash, that is clear.

The Hammers had 3.27 xG, but managed to hit the target on just three occasions, while also obviously failing to score.

At this stage of the season, missed chances can prove incredibly costly, and with the relegation battle set to go down to the wire, it is going to be vital that the Irons make the most of their chances in front of goal.

However, Nuno will take heart from just how many they managed to create, but will be frustrated that they failed to take them.
