Jermain Defoe impressed by West Ham boss David Moyes' style

Jermain Defoe has showered praise on West Ham manager David Moyes after his side’s victory over Leeds United in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Hammers secured a 2-0 win against the Elland Road side at the London Stadium on Sunday (9 January), booking a place in the fourth round, and the Rangers striker admitted he is not surprised to see the squad’s improvement under their boss while on punditry duties on ITV.

Moyes has turned West Ham into a force to reckon with in the Premier League and Europe, and many are tipping them for silverware in 2021-22.

Defoe said: “Even if it was raining, he would not leave the training pitch until he’s covered every single details, set-pieces.

“He did everything, and he’s someone that really impressed me, and what’s even better than that is how he treated the senior players.”

Top boss

Moyes briefly managed the former Irons striker at Sunderland, and it is why he is not surprised that his old boss is doing so well these days.

West Ham face non-league side Kidderminster Harriers in the fourth round of the FA Cup and will fancy their chances of making it to the last-16.

Another kind draw could push them into the quarter-finals, and just anything is possible in this competition after Leicester City won it last term.

Ending 2021-22 with silverware is definitely possible for Moyes as his side are also in the Europa League last-16.

A top-four finish in the Premier League remains the aim, and should they manage to bring in a couple of quality additions before the January transfer window shuts, that is within reach as they have the quality.

The Hammers need more depth within their ranks if they are to challenge across the three competitions they are currently in, and they cannot afford to let the January transfer window end without making the best of it.
