Jeff Stelling slams Fabian Schar after what he saw Newcastle United star do v West Ham United
Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has been slammed by Jeff Stelling for a controversial moment during the Magpies’ win over West Ham United.
David Moyes’ side were unable to return from the international break with three points as they threw away a two-goal lead in the second half to lose 4-3 at St James’ Park on Saturday (30 March).
The Irons took the lead through Mohammed Kudus after a quick free-kick, but the strike was shrouded in controversy as the free-kick was taken while Schar was still on the floor, but Stelling didn’t believe it was a “serious” head injury.
Writing on X on Sunday (31 March) he said: “You know I love NUFC but it’s clearly not a SERIOUS head injury. A scratch at worst. Schar needed to get up and get on with it.
“We need to stop people feigning head injuries. Anyway, you won so it doesn’t matter. Barnes fabulous.”
Should Mohammed Kudus’ and West Ham United’s goal have been ruled out after Fabian Schar injury?
From a West Ham perspective, it was incredibly clear that Schar wasn’t actually injured and was just trying to stop the Hammers from taking the free-kick quickly, but the referee was wise to the defender’s antics.
However, the Irons were unable to make use of their little bit of luck as they took their foot off of the gas in the second half and were punished for it as Newcastle’s attacking talent ran riot in the second half.
Too many individual mistakes made it far too easy for the home side to complete a comeback that should never have been allowed. If West Ham want to qualify for Europe again this season, they have to find some consistency in the Premier League.
Hopefully, the Irons will get back to winning ways sooner rather than later, otherwise they can kiss any further European aspirations goodbye. Something needs to change and it doesn’t appear as though it will be the manager.
