Jeff Stelling shares new West Ham United relegation prediction as ‘alarm bells’ ring in 4-3 loss v Crystal Palace

Jeff Stelling admitted “relegation alarm bells” could be ringing at West Ham United after watching Crystal Palace’s second goal of the afternoon on Saturday (29 April).

The Hammers fell to a highly entertaining but nonetheless frustrating 4-3 loss at Selhurst Park that left the club five points above the relegation zone with five games of their season remaining.

After Wilfried Zaha netted Crystal Palace’s second goal of the afternoon, Stelling delivered a new relegation verdict for David Moyes’ side live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

Missed opportunity

Although large portions of the media believe West Ham already have enough points on the board to avoid relegation, they aren’t quite out of the woods yet.

Yes, the Hammers have a nice buffer to the relegation-threatened sides beneath them, but the club’s upcoming fixtures make grim reading.

Moyes’ side still have to play Manchester City and Manchester United in the next week while also juggling their Europa Conference League commitments.

The 4-3 loss to Crystal Palace wasn’t the worst performance of the season, but the defence offered up far too many chances for Moyes’ liking.

After a string of strong performances against Arsenal, Bournemouth and Liverpool, supporters will be hoping West Ham United can put this result behind them ahead of facing both Manchester clubs.

They are probably a win away from securing their Premier League survival, but while the wait goes on for those three points, fans will likely remain a nervous wreck.
