Jeff Stelling hits back at West Ham United fan live on talkSPORT over David Moyes sack verdict

Jeff Stelling has hit back at one West Ham United supporter live on air after they suggested David Moyes still deserves to be sacked at the London Stadium, despite the Irons’ draw with Aston Villa.

The Hammers picked up a valuable point against Unai Emery’s side on Sunday (17 March) as they drew 1-1 thanks to Michail Antonio’s first-half header to end his goal drought in claret and blue.

While the draw, partnered with the 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg in the Europa League has eased the pressure on Moyes from most fans, Hammers supporter Steve labelled the Scotsman a “moron” much to Stelling’s frustration.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (18 March, 9:22) he said: “They’re seventh in the Premier League and current holders of the Conference League title, that’s not enough it seems. Surely you’re happy with David Moyes now?”

Hammers fan Steve responded saying: “I was desperate to come on this morning. What happened in the second half, we took off Antonio who was causing havoc I might add and then he brought on a defender.

“Why don’t we just go out and batter them? That’s all he ever does, he hasn’t got an attacking bone in his body the moron.”

Stelling hit back saying: “You’re seventh in the table, you’re in the quarter-finals of the Europa League! Let’s hope the season continues in a successful vein.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes at the London Stadium?

Pressure had been mounting on Moyes in the last few weeks at the London Stadium, but the Irons’ recent run of form in the Premier League and Europe has ensured that the tension around East London has eased ever so slightly.

West Ham weren’t at their best against Villa, but they picked up a valuable point against a very good Premier League side and on another day they could well have claimed all three points had other decisions gone their way.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

Some will argue that the Hammers boss was too defensive again on Sunday and while you can point to his substitution and tactics, Moyes will have obviously have wanted to claim all three points against Emery’s side.

It seems likely the Scotsman will extend his stay beyond the end of the season and while supporters like Steve may not be impressed with that decision, there has been enough in West Ham’s recent displays to suggest that could be the right call.
