Jeff Stelling hits back at West Ham United fan live on air over David Moyes sack suggestion

Jeff Stelling has hit back at one West Ham United supporter live on air after he criticised David Moyes following the Hammers 5-0 defeat to Fulham.

The Irons put in arguably their worst performance of the campaign so far at Craven Cottage on Sunday 10 December as they fell apart defensively and struggled going forward to end their six-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Despite the recent run of form at the London Stadium, calls for Moyes’ sacking have increased following the defeat to Marco Silva’s side, with one West Ham fan texting into talkSPORT to suggest that the Scotsman’s time should be up, much to Stelling’s dismay.

Speaking on talkSPORT (11 December, 6:49) he said: “I’m thinking Ally, is this the same David Moyes that won a European trophy for West Ham and has got them in the top 10 of the Premier League? Russell, you’re losing a grip on reality for goodness sake.

“You’re doing brilliant, ok not at the weekend, but by and large you’re doing brilliantly, get a grip son. You are getting ideas above your station.”

On the whole, it has been a reasonable start to the season for West Ham and David Moyes, with reasonable success both in the Premier League and the Europa League in the opening months of the campaign.

The Hammers have booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages with a game to spare, they still sit in the top half of the Premier League and have found themselves in the quarter-final stages of the Carabao Cup.

It is only natural that some supporters will have been disappointed by the manner of the defeat to Fulham on Sunday and rightly so. The Irons were miles off of the pace at Craven Cottage, but that blame doesn’t just lie with Moyes, as the players must take some responsibility themselves.

Moyes’ past success will only protect him so far and if these sorts of 5-0 drubbings become a regular occurrence at the London Stadium, the pressure will begin to mount on the Scotsman. But for now, one poor result doesn’t define a season and one big defeat won’t push Moyes’ out of the dugout.
