Jeff Stelling absolutely hates what Nuno Espirito Santo has said amid West Ham sack talk

Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham reign hit a new low against Wolves at the weekend.

West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, in what is undoubtedly one of the Hammers’ most humiliating defeats in their recent Premier League history.

Tony Cascarino launched a scathing attack on West Ham after what he saw take place last weekend, whilst Alan Shearer also fumed at the Hammers’ performance against Rob Edwards’ relegation-stricken Wanderers side.

David Sullivan is now being urged to sack Nuno, as despite West Ham sitting in 18th, they are only four points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, who they welcome to the London Stadium on Tuesday night for what will be the biggest game of United’s season.

Jeff Stelling condemns Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham comments

After the full-time whistle had blown at Molineux, Nuno was heavily critical of his West Ham players, calling into question their effort, as well as apologising to Hammers supporters for the dismal display.

However, what he said didn’t sit well with Jeff Stelling, who laid into Nuno’s comments via the talkSPORT Breakfast show on Monday.

“He (Nuno) mentioned the lack of effort, discipline, organisation and responsibility. Now, that first bit – ‘a lack of effort’ – I hate the phrase, hate it,” said Stelling.

“Players not playing for the manager? When he comes out and mentions a lack of effort, it suggests that.”

This is how West Ham can get season back on track vs Nottingham Forest

Tuesday’s relegation six-pointer between West Ham and Nottingham Forest is nothing short of monumental for both teams.

With Nuno facing off against his former employers, the Portuguese coach knows that nothing other than a win will surely cost him his Hammers job.

So, where do the keys to a West Ham win lie? Well, as per WhoScored, Nottingham Forest have conceded just 12 goals from open play this season, which is less than Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford and Manchester United to name a few.

However, Forest have conceded the joint-most amount of goals on the counter-attack (five), as well as the third-most from set-pieces, so these two situations look the most fruitful avenues to goal for the Hammers.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche’s side are allowing the most shots on goal through the middle of the pitch (79 per cent) of any Premier League team this season, whilst affording the fewest amount (10 per cent) from both the left side and right side (11 per cent), meaning West Ham’s best bet of hurting them from open play appears to be down the middle of the pitch.
