Jean-Clair Todibo questioned as Martin Allen hits out at West Ham verdict

Martin Allen has cast doubt on Jean-Clair Todibo’s ability at West Ham United by hitting back at claims he has been good.

Allen posted on X (23 December) in response to a fan who stated that Todibo is one of new five players who have been good for the Irons this season, as the former Hammer appeared to disagree.

Fellow signings Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Carlos Soler and Crysencio Summerville weren’t singled out, but OGC Nice loanee Todibo’s ability was questioned by a sceptical Allen.

He asked: “Todibo good? Is he?”

Jean-Clair Todibo can still come good at West Ham United

Unlike Kilman, Wan-Bissaka and Summerville, whom the Hammers spent the best part of £80million on between them this summer, Soler and Todibo are both on season-long loan deals at the London Stadium.

While the Irons’ intention – and therefore a clause is included in his loan contract – is for Todibo to permanently become their player next summer [Sean Whetstone, 11 August], the jury remains out on the Frenchman.

Injuries and disagreements with Julen Lopetegui have seen Todibo come in and out of the team so far this term, with the latter also casting further doubt over whether the 24-year-old wants to stay put.

He’s far from the only new signing to not be fully sold on the Hammers’ vision going forward, but given foundations are already in place for a transfer next summer, Todibo looks likely to remain in East London.

Allen and many other Irons fans may still have their doubts about Todibo when it comes to that long-term strategy, but he could still represent a huge transfer coup further down the track.
