Jean-Clair Todibo punished weeks before Graham Potter sack as West Ham meeting revealed

David Sullivan and the West Ham board have come under severe fire for their role in the dismissal of Graham Potter.

Karren Brady is said to have sacked Potter over the phone on Saturday as he was on his way into Rush Green to take training.

The businesswoman’s actions haven’t gone down too well, with West Ham fans still planning on protesting against Newcastle next month.

Multiple players have had their gametime cut by Potter in recent weeks, with Jean-Clair Todibo coming under fire from his former manager.

Jean-Clair Todibo arrived late for West Ham training

Todibo could benefit from Potter’s dismissal, having rarely featured for the Hammers so far this season.

The defender was initially signed on loan last summer, with his mandatory buy option triggered following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

During West Ham’s 5-1 defeat to Chelsea, Todibo was poor as he was at fault for the equaliser they conceded, which led to an onslaught from the Blues.

He was dropped for Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos following the defeat and has rarely featured since.

The Athletic have now revealed that Todibo frustrated Potter with his inconsistency and was dropped against Spurs two weeks ago for bad timekeeping.

He did not perform in training up to Potter’s standards and was called to his office and told to improve.

Todibo went on to arrive late for training the following day and hasn’t been part of the matchday squads against Tottenham or Crystal Palace since.

Graham Potter lost the dressing room at West Ham

Todibo isn’t the only player who has concerned Potter during his eight months in charge.

The 50-year-old had doubts over Jarrod Bowen’s ability to captain the Hammers and his leadership qualities.

At the end of last season, the Hammers lost multiple leaders whose departures appear to have had a big effect on the current squad.

With plenty of changes in the transfer window and revelations coming out of the London Stadium, it seems like Potter lost the dressing room in his final few weeks in charge.
