Jarrod Bowen’s West Ham ‘mission appears simple’ as new World Cup claim made

West Ham star Jarrod Bowen is facing a battle to make England’s World Cup squad this summer.

Bowen has struggled for form this season, which is one of the main reasons that the Hammers are in serious danger of relegation from the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher had previously claimed that the West Ham star could miss out, with the 29-year-old missing out on his squad for the tournament.

However, he has been assured that he should have a place in Thomas Tuchel‘s squad, as a new claim was made.

Bowen will beat Arsenal ace to World Cup spot

Bowen is understood to have Arsenal star Noni Madueke as his main competition for Tuchel’s 26-man squad.

The Mirror‘s John Cross believes that the Irons man has the edge as he rated his chances of being on the plane to travel to the United States, Mexico and Canada.

In a column on 12 February, he gave Bowen a seven out of 10 chance and said: “His mission appears simple: it looks like a straight fight between Bowen and Noni Madueke to be the back-up right-sided player behind Bukayo Saka.

“While Madueke’s form has been patchy, Bowen has been disappointing by his standards – until now. He is on the rise again.”

Why Bowen should be in the squad over Madueke

Even in a relatively poor campaign for the E20 outfit, Bowen has notched eight goals and three assists for one of the worst sides in the league.

Meanwhile, Madueke has only played 16 times in the league for Mikel Arteta’s side, with one goal and one assist, which is a pretty underwhelming return, especially in such a brilliant side.

Therefore, it should be clear to the Three Lions boss that the London Stadium star should be the backup right-winger selected for the competition.

Bowen has never let the nation down when he has been called upon, and has one goal and one assist in his 20 caps that he has earned so far.

His numbers have been much better than the Hammers’ miserable campaign suggests too, with 2.3 shots per game, 1.5 successful dribbles per game and four ball recoveries per game, per Sofascore.

He is exactly the type of player that Tuchel needs to have on his bench, as he can come on and make a vital impact for the country, if they need a goal, and clearly, he helps out defensively too.

The Hammers will hope that he finishes the campaign strongly, helping them avoid relegation, and then is named in the squad for the tournament.
