Jarrod Bowen set for ‘Harry Kane-like transfer’ away from West Ham

Graham Potter will be looking ahead to the summer transfer window, knowing that there is plenty of work to be done at West Ham.

The boss was limited in the movements he could make during the winter transfer window and it has shown on the pitch with his side sitting sixteenth in the Premier League table.

A 1-1 draw with already relegated Southampton on Saturday (19 April) highlighted just how dire things are at The London Stadium right now, with supporters crying out for the season to end.

While the end of the campaign may be a welcome breather, there will no doubt be plenty of anxiety over the future of starman Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen linked with exit from West Ham

There is no doubt that Bowen is West Ham’s best player and he has shown why he is worthy of that title throughout the campaign so far, despite facing difficult circumstances.

It was the captain who was on the scoresheet for the Hammers against Southampton, although his goal did not prove to be enough to see them through the game.

For several summers now, West Ham have been threatened with the possibility of losing Bowen, and the conversations are not quieting down ahead of this summer either.

The winger has been linked with an exit from East London to go to Liverpool, and now, he has been compared to Harry Kane.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (19 April), Jason Cundy admitted: “I wonder this summer, there comes a point in a player’s career where you go so far with a certain team. I wonder whether Bowen has reached that period now.”

Jamie O’Hara replied with the comparison, saying: “It’s like Harry Kane. Do you think?”

Cundy replied to say: “Yeah, he’s too good.”

West Ham have to keep Bowen

It has been a tough start to life at West Ham for Potter and things will be no easier with plenty of hard work to do over the summer.

With PSR restrictions tight, the Irons may need to offload some of the squad before they can focus on bringing in new faces.

One thing’s for sure, though, Bowen exiting The London Stadium would be a massive blow for the boss as he tries to take his side forward to success next season.

Bowen has shown plenty of loyalty to his side, and on a personal level, it’s unlikely he wants to leave. However, as Cundy says, there comes a point where a player has to prioritise their career over the club they are playing for.

Kane has been the victim of that decision, while even Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave the Premier League champions-elect behind.

Therefore, Potter needs to make sure his side are much improved next term, proving to the 28-year-old why he is right to stay put at West Ham.

If the boss fails to get his side going and has another disappointing campaign, Bowen will surely have to start considering options from elsewhere.
