Jarrod Bowen misses Brentford friendly due to minor knock

West Ham United take on Brentford in a pre-season friendly this afternoon (Saturday), but attacking midfielder Jarrod Bowen was conspicuously missing from the matchday squad.

According to Thomas Clark – West Ham correspondent for Football.London – the 24-year-old only missed the game due to a minor knock that is not that serious.

He posted the update on his personal Twitter account.

“Jarrod Bowen not in the matchday squad with a minor knock. Nothing serious.”

Huge relief

Bowen has been in fine form throughout pre-season, and he showed no signs of knocks heading into the Brentford friendly.

Given recent rumours linking him with Liverpool, some West Ham fans on Twitter were already thinking of the worst, suggesting he could be off to Anfield in a summer deal.

While that is laughable, their fears are understandable, and hopefully, the knock is mouthing serious with the new Premier League season just two weeks away.

We begin 2021-22 with a trip to Newcastle United on August 15th, and we need one of our best players fit for the start of the campaign in order to hit the ground running and continue from where we stopped last season.

David Moyes’ men face Atalanta next Saturday (August 7) in the last pre-season friendly, and we are eager to see whether Bowen would be available.

Another player who was not included in matchday squad for the Brentford game is Angelo Ogbonna.

The Italian centre-back got injured during last weekend’s friendly against Celtic and is unavailable for action.

Issa Diop and Craig Dawson featured at centre-back in his absence, and Moyes would be sweating over his fitness given his importance to the team.

In other West Ham news, Hammers are ready to offer player highly incentivised contract, Moyes wants him.
