Jarrod Bowen bigged up potential next West Ham manager just weeks ago amid Graham Potter sack news

Graham Potter’s ill-fated spell at West Ham increasingly looks like reaching a sour end.

Potter has endured a largely miserable time of it at the London Stadium since joining as manager in January and the Hammers sit 19th in the Premier League with just three points from five games this term.

The pressure is mounting heavily on the under-fire gaffer in East London and it isn’t letting up anytime soon with Wayne Rooey pinpointing one decision that could be a disaster for Potter.

Potter’s days at West Ham already appear numbered and speculation surrounding his replacement is on the rise.

Bowen backed Nottingham Forest for Europa League success

One name who has been linked with the West Ham hotseat if they make a change is Nuno Espirito Santo.

West Ham have a free run at Nuno if he is the man the hierarchy believe can turn things around at the London Stadium after he departed Nottingham Forest on 9 September.

And Hammers’ captain Jarrod Bowen has previously bigged up Nuno, tipping his then Forestside to win the Europa League when talking to talkSPORT at an England camp earlier this month.

Buno was still in charge of the Tricky Trees at the time but has since been replaced by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

Nuno could get the best out of Jarrod Bowen

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager could be a great fit for the West Ham dugout and could help West Ham improve defensively at the London Stadium.

Nuno took over at the City Ground in December 2023, following Steve Cooper’s departure, with the club sat 17th at the time and on a run that included just one win in 13 games.

Across his 21-month spell at the club, Nuno choreographed an enormous upturn in form and had the City Ground crowd ready to embark on a European tour.

Nuno would find himself in a similar situation as he did at Forest and his past experience could be crucial in helping to get the best out of skipper Bowen.

West Ham’s captain has started all five league games this season and has netted two goals.

Operating mainly off the right-hand side, Bowen has been a talismanic figure since arriving in East London.

If appointed, Nuno would be looking to replicate the kind of numbers he extracted out of Anthony Elanga from that position.

Elanga was involved in 17 goals last season despite missing six big chances and not always being the go-to player with Morgan Gibbs-White also in the side.

Bowen’s clear quality and shouldering attacking responsibility, in a similar system, the skipper’s numbers could be mightily impressive.
