Jannik Vestergaard will miss Leicester v West Ham clash

West Ham host Leicester City tonight in their second Premier League game of the new campaign, and the visitors have an injury concern.

According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, the Foxes will be without Denmark international centre-back Jannik Vestergaard for the trip to the London Stadium after he picked up a knock in training.

The 29-year-old joined Leicester less than two weeks ago owing to Wesley Fofana’s long-term injury, and they have been dealt a massive injury blow ahead of the West Ham game.

Boost for the Hammers?

Brendan Rodgers’ side are short at the back right now, and that could be good news for us.

Jonny Evans is still absent with a foot problem, while Ryan Bertrand is unavailable for selection after testing positive for COVID-19.

With Vestergaard now out, the Foxes could be forced to field one of their defensive midfielders in the position, and that disrupts their manager’s plans.

While Leicester are suffering an injury crisis at the back, West Ham could soon have four centre-back options to call upon, with a verbal agreement struck between David Moyes’ side and Chelsea for Kurt Zouma [The Athletic].

We are expected to start tonight’s clash with Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson, and that should be enough to get the job done.

Michail Antonio will surely fancy his chances against what could be a weakened Leicester backline, but the Irons should expect a fierce contest given the quality of the FA Cup holders.

After starting 2021-22 on a winning note at Newcastle United last weekend, another victory tonight would be great, and we have been handed a boost.
