Jamie Carragher wowed by new Soucek footage at West Ham United
Jamie Carragher branded Tomas Soucek a “revelation” after his goal for West Ham United against Wolves on Monday.
The former Liverpool defender hailed the Czech international for his threat inside the six-yard box after he found the back of the net in the Hammers’ 2-1 win on 9 December.
The 29-year-old’s looping header beat Sam Johnstone to open the scoring at the London Stadium, while Jarrod Bowen scored the winner in the 72nd minute to somewhat save Julen Lopetegui for another week.
Speaking on Sky Sports [9 December], Carragher said: “This guy has been an absolute revelation since he’s come to West Ham. David Moyes brings him in. He’s scored 12 goals from corners since he joined the club. Only Gabriel has got more than him in the Premier League.
“And when you think about dangers from set-pieces, you think Gabriel, you think of Soucek, and you probably think, for me, Tarkowski at Everton. Absolutely fantastic, that man.”

It was a do-or-die fixture for Lopetegui, and it looks like the Spaniard has managed to relieve the pressure off him for now with the victory.
While the performance wasn’t the best from the Irons, what mattered at the end was getting the three points — taking the East London club nine points above the relegation zone.
Considering the talent at Lopetegui’s disposal, it would be surprising to see the Hammers go down, but the 53-year-old’s stint has been well below expectations nonetheless.
West Ham should’ve been competing for a European berth rather than hovering towards the bottom of the league table in the English top flight.
David Sullivan decided to part ways with David Moyes by not extending his stay in the summer and handed the reins to Lopetegui — a decision that has backfired miserably so far.
The Hammers’ display against Wolves was far from convincing, and Soucek’s contribution to the fixture has only delayed the inevitable, with the Irons already looking for replacements for the Spanish head coach [Daily Mail, 5 December].
