Jamie Carragher slams West Ham midfielder Declan Rice for getting overrun in the England v United States clash that ended 0-0.
The 23-year-old played the entire game for the Three Lions but did not have the best out of outings as the American side won the midfield battle.
Jude Bellingham, the more attacking of the two midfielders, was made to play in a more advanced position with Jordan Henderson in the holding role with Rice.
Via Twitter, Football Daily shared the Sky Sports broadcast video as Carragher said, “As we saw at times in the game against the US, Declan Rice got overrun. Felt like he was outnumbered in there, thought he needed a little bit of help/ I thought the change of Jordan Henderson changed the game for England.”
Tad harsh
Rice did not have the best of games, but he was certainly one of England’s better players on the day.
Bar Harry Maguire, we cannot think of anyone else who was better than the 23-year-old and it’s mainly down to the structure of the team than his individual deficiencies.
Rice is one of the most complete midfielders in Europe at the moment and only seems to be getting better with each passing season.
Instead of Henderson, we would rather he plays alongside Kalvin Phillips as that allows the West Ham man to also venture forward.
They were an incredible duo at the EUROs and if Phillips had been fit, he would’ve played over Henderson and Bellingham in a more advanced position.
We’re hoping that Rice is not called out for the lack of discipline of his teammates as he’s clearly a level above most of the players in the national team.
