Jamie Carragher shares Liverpool issue with West Ham man Jarrod Bowen

Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on Liverpool’s supposed interest in West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen.

The winger has been the Hammers’ stand out performer this season with 23 goals in all competitions.

Which has led to Jurgen Klopp expressing his admiration for the 25-year-old amid the Liverpool Echo linking him with a move to the Anfield outfit.

However, former Red Carragher has shared one issue that could keep the Englishman with the Irons.

He said live on Sky Sports: “There’s talk of Liverpool’s interest in him [Bowen] and you can see why with the goals and assists he gets, but also the positions he takes up.

“Even that one [the position he took up before his injury], the position he gets in when Virgil van Dijk heads it back.

“He plays very narrow, as Liverpool’s wide players do.

“But I just think it’s always difficult for Liverpool to ever buy anyone in that position when you’ve got Mo Salah. Not just his quality, but he very rarely misses games.”

Silver lining

Bowen has been electric this season, absolutely sensational. It would be difficult to recall a West Ham player who has had a season this successful in front of goal since Dimitri Payet some years ago.

Declan Rice might pick up a lot of the plaudits in the media but that will soon be the winger if he produces the numbers he has this season on a consistent basis.

That is the most important thing, doing it time and time again as his form has dipped in recent weeks.

His injury will be a huge blow to the Irons of course but there might just be a silver lining. It isn’t a serious one so he should be back in action very soon but the break he will get from playing might be invaluable.

As long as West Ham weather the storm of not having him in their games, most notably the key Europa League clash with Sevilla, he could come back rejuvenated and ready to give his all in the final push.

All of the transfer rumour rubbish needs to be ignored for now with important football to play.
