Jamie Carragher raves about West Ham duo Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal
Jamie Carragher has been thrilled by West Ham duo Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek this season in their first full seasons in the Premier League.
David Moyes signed midfielder Soucek permanently last summer after an initial half-season loan at the London Stadium while right-back Coufal also joined on a full-time basis from Slavia Prague.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football this week, Carragher named Coufal in his team of the season for the Premier League.
As quoted on the Sky Sports website, the ex-Liverpool defender said: “At right-back I’ve gone for Vladimir Coufal, I love him. He plays week in, week out, has been brilliant and typifies West Ham’s season.”
Carragher also waxed lyrical about Soucek, claiming the Czech midfielder has been the signing of the season in the top-flight.
“I’m just thinking about the impact of West Ham,” said Carragher. “I must say that he had a taste of the Premier League before, he was on loan last season. But he is a typical David Moyes player and he has had a huge impact.
“The goals he gets from the midfield and the combination with Declan Rice. We can talk about teams having great seasons, but the turnaround at West Ham has been huge.
“This is a team that was fighting relegation now going for the Champions League and I think he, for me, is possibly the most important player around that and what he is like in both boxes, which is a huge part of West Ham’s success.”

Coufal has easily been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League this season.
The 28-year-old has made 31 appearances in the top-flight, assisting six goals in the process.
While he’s been dangerous going forward, he’s also done a great job at getting back and defending too with Moyes’ defence showing a marked improvement since his arrival in the summer.
As for Soucek, where do we start?
He was unlucky to not get in Carragher’s team of the signing considering the Liverpool legend views the Czech midfielder as the Premier League’s best signing.
The 26-year-old has made 35 Premier League appearances this season, playing every minute of every game for the Irons.
In those games, he’s scored nine goals while he’s also helped win possession constantly due to his aerial strength.
What’s amazing about these two Czech players is that they’re at the peaks of their careers and can only continue to get better as they carry on adapting to life in the Premier League.
In other West Ham news, this Irons star is being forced to move house because of what fans are doing.
