Jamie Carragher predicts Chelsea v West Ham United scoreline in Premier League clash

Jamie Carragher has shared his prediction ahead of a Premier League clash between Chelsea and West Ham on Sunday (5 May).

The Hammers will travel to Stamford Bridge off the back of a smash-and-grab draw against Liverpool, hoping to complete the league double over Chelsea.

David Moyes’ side won the reverse fixture 3-1 earlier this season, with Nayef Aguerd and Michail Antonio scoring either side of a Carney Chukwuemeka goal before Lucas Paqueta converted from the penalty spot.

Predicting this weekend’s matches via Sky Sports on Thursday (2 May), Carragher guessed Chelsea would record a 3-1 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham United keen to end season on a high

Of course, the Hammers’ season has been full of highs and lows, even despite currently sitting eighth in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.

Moyes has been under immense pressure, with the search for a new manager having already started ahead of the summer transfer window. Paolo Fonseca and Julen Lopetegui have both been linked.

However, with just two matches of the campaign remaining, the Scot will oversee three final games against Chelsea, Luton Town and Manchester City, and will be hoping to leave with his head held high.

Considering the Blues’ form and injury woes, West Ham certainly have an opportunity to complete the league double over their London rivals, who have also floundered in the Premier League this season.

Whichever team claims victory could be very telling in the league standings, being separated by just one point, though Chelsea do have two games in hand.

West Ham manager David Moyes
David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

One player who could make a considerable difference, having been dropped for the Liverpool draw, is James Ward-Prowse, who has haunted Chelsea before.

In the return fixture, Ward-Prowse assisted Aguerd and Antonio, with Emerson Palmieri winning the penalty for Paqueta’s spot-kick deep into added time.

In other West Ham news, the club have been handed a major boost in appointing David Moyes’ replacement as a manager has made his future intentions clear.
