Jamie Carragher names West Ham ace Declan Rice in Premier League Team of the Season

Jamie Carragher has included West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in his Premier League Team of the Season.

The 23-year-old has been a stalwart in David Moyes’ team – playing a pivotal role as the Hammers pushed deep into every competition this year.

Despite receiving many plaudits, the England international was adamant that he needs to be better in front of goal having only found the net nine times across all competitions this season.

Rice is the Irons’ only inclusion in the Sky Pundits’ best XI but his east London future remains uncertain after he turned down yet another new contract from the club as per Sky Sports.

The former Chelsea man has one year left on his London Stadium contract – with the option to extend by another year – as a number of clubs eyeing a move for the youngster.

Rice deserves to be given all of the plaudits for the levels he has shown this season.

It would have been easy for the Hammer to have come back from the Euros somewhat deflated having come so close to winning and falling at the final hurdle but it has done his confidence the world of good.

Playing with and against some of the best players in Europe and not only not looking out of place but shining would have made him realise the massive amount of quality he possesses.

It has been brilliant for David Moyes but the Scot would have wished he had burst onto the international scene a little bit later because that was ultimately the moment when everyone started to take notice of Rice.

Unfortunately, it has always been inevitable that he will leave given the quality that he has. It would be amazing if he could gift the supporters with a piece of silverware before he departs with the Irons looking more competitive than ever.
