Jamie Carragher clashes with West Ham United fan over David Moyes sack verdict
Jamie Carragher has clashed with a West Ham United fan over the feeling around the future of manager David Moyes.
Moyes has been linked with an exit from the Hammers at the end of the season when his contract is due to expire, although he has claimed he has an offer from the board to extend his deal despite reports elsewhere that they aren’t sure if they want him to be in charge next season.
Fan Liv Elliott of the Blowing Bubbles fanzine appeared on The Overlap: Fan Debate (28 March) and admitted that there are concerns about the manager’s playing style at the London Stadium, which led to Carragher to fight back in defence of the boss.
“Can it ever get better for West Ham?” he asked. “You’ve won a trophy, you say you should be challenging for top six but you’re seventh now. So you’re right up there.
“You’re where most people who aren’t West Ham fans would say you should be, or maybe slightly over-achieving. Is it just better football? Because I don’t ever see West Ham being higher in the table if I’m totally honest.”
Carragher is totally missing the point of West Ham fans
West Ham fans are fully aware that Moyes has done an excellent job so far at the club, and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t grateful to him for that.
Winning the Europa Conference League is the best night the club has had in a long time for supporters, and pushing into the latter stages of the Europa League this season has shown progress.
But with the players that are available to this squad and with the money spent, these are things the club are supposed to be pushing for anyway.
The fans want these results and accomplishments to come alongside entertaining football, and there is no reason why they can’t have a manager who can deliver both things simultaneously.
With Moyes out of contract it’s the perfect time for things to end and for everyone to go their separate ways now and try something new, so it will be interesting to see what West Ham decide to do.
In other West Ham news, the club have held talks with the reps of a “special” Premier League star about a summer transfer.
