Intermediaries offer Gerson to West Ham United, agents involved over transfer
West Ham United have been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Gerson, with agents currently negotiating a potential move, according to GOAL Brasil.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form with the Ligue 1 side this season, making 13 appearances and netting two goals, but is contracted with the French club until June 2026.
There had been talks between Marseille and Flamengo about a return to his home nation, but these fell through due to the attitudes of Gerson’s father – who frustrated the Marseille hierarchy by claiming the move was done before an agreement was reached.
The Brazilian midfielder is now looking for a new home elsewhere, and intermediaries are subsequently working on a January move to either The London Stadium or another unnamed Spanish club. [Goal Brasil]
With David Moyes’ side languishing just a point above the relegation zone, the Scot is looking to strengthen his squad in January – with the middle of the park one of his first priorities.
West Ham’s need for added strength in depth in midfield is well-known, with the club relying far too heavily on Declan Rice to deliver week in, week out for the side.
With Tomas Soucek dipping out of form this season and starting to struggle with the high-paced nature of the Premier League, fresh legs are certainly needed to bolster David Moyes’ squad.
The 25-year-old fits the bill for the Scot, with a host of experience in European leagues and Champions League football under his belt.
The midfielder was a key member of Marseille’s second-place finish in the French top-flight last season and is a perfect option to cover for Rice and Soucek in the middle of the park if either were to fall foul to injuries.
Marseille manager Igor Tudor is keen to sell some of his assets in order to refresh his squad, and a move to West Ham in January would suit both parties involved.
