Roshane Thomas: Benrahma unlikely to start in West Ham clash v Leeds

The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas is not convinced that Said Benrahma will start for West Ham against Leeds United on Friday.

Speaking during the latest episode of U Irons (37:06), The Athletic’s resident West Ham podcast, Thomas cast doubts over the Algerian’s place in the team.

He said: “I’m not confident, unfortunately. We sort of know what Moyes is like now. I reckon if he’s not involved against Leeds, then it’s definitely Crystal Palace. 100% Crystal Palace.”

The former Brentford man is yet to start a Premier League game for the Hammers after his arrival in the summer.

The wait goes on for Benrahma

Despite there being much excitement about his move to the London Stadium, he has been limited to just four substitute appearances.

During those four games, Benrahma has managed to register two assists with some impressive cameo performances.

Moyes has previously stated that the Hammers had been ‘playing too well’ for Benrahma to get into the team.

However, the trip to Elland Road presents a good opportunity for the former Championship star to get his maiden Premier League start.

His second-half cameo against Aston Villa at the London Stadium was arguably his most impressive display in a West Ham shirt.

As per Wyscout, he completed 100% of his forward passes, 100% of his passes into the final third and set up Jarrod Bowen’s winner brilliantly with a delicate cross just moments after coming.

With Leeds conceding 11 goals in their last five Premier League games, the visit to Elland Road could be the perfect opportunity to give the attack-minded Benrahma his first taste of Premier League football from the start.
