Ian Wright rages at Michail Antonio in West Ham United defeat v Crystal Palace

Ian Wright has been left fuming at Michail Antonio as West Ham suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League on Sunday (6 November) at the London Stadium.

The Hammers strikers appealed for a penalty in the second half after he went down in the box. The referee had a look at the pitchside monitor and decided that the challenge was fine.

Wright, while analyzing the game on the Premier League Tv production, has slammed Antonio, saying it was “ridiculous” for him to even think it was a penalty.

“Absolutely ridiculous. Ridiculous even to think it’s a penalty,” said Wright on Premier League Tv productions (aired on 6 November).

“He [Antonio] has really not done enough for him to go down. He gets past player.. there.. that is not enough. No where near enough contact for him to go down in this fashion. Quite frustrating to see that.”

David Moyes retains the backing of the owners but the Hammers are struggling at the moment.

In almost every game in the Premier League, they make a slow start and tend to pick up the pace in the final few minutes.

In this case, Antonio went to the ground too easily, and probably the decision was right. However, we have seen penalties given on the slightest of touches, so the debate can go on.

The Hammers have been struggling to pick up wins away from home, but they have been dropping points at the London Stadium as well.

West Ham have a very good squad that can challenge for the top six, but they are massively underperforming this season. Moyes needs to play more attacking football, and get the best out of players like Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.

Declan Rice was very down after the game, and he felt “devastated” after the defeat.
