Ian Wright fumes at Craig Dawson in West Ham United defeat v Crystal Palace

West Ham United suffered a 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday (6 November).

A backpass from Craig Dawson in the first half gave the visitors a chance to equalize, and Wilfried Zaha made no mistake.

Ian Wright was disappointed with Dawson’s defending and branded it as “terrible”.

“Terrible, terrible pass from Dawson. He didn’t even get time to open his body up,” said Wright on Premier League Tv production (6 November).

Poor

It was indeed a poor pass from Dawson. It was a heavy pass to Thilo Kehrer on the right side who couldn’t control it properly.

It lead to a sharp counter-attack and the Hammers ended up conceding the goal.

It was a poor defeat in the end and the Hammers boss is under tremendous pressure.

West Ham now have lost back-to-back league games. What has been really frustrating is that they couldn’t raise their levels in the London derby fixture, that too at home.

Dawson has been tremendous for the club, and he is usually very reliable. During the summer, Dawson was linked with an exit, as he wanted to stay close to his family.

The move didn’t materialise in the end, and Dawson stayed on. It will be interesting to see what the defensive combination be like when Nayef Aguerd will start playing regularly.

Nevertheless, the Hammers need to bounce back, and should aim to win against Leicester in their next league game before the World Cup.
