Ian Wright calls for West Ham United to change formation after defeat to Manchester United

Ian Wright has praised Michail Antonio for his performance against Man United and called for West Ham to change their system following defeat.

The Hammers were beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford and were denied a point by some fantastic David De Gea saves late on, but David Moyes once again opted to play with one striker throughout the game as Antonio replaced Gianluca Scamacca.

But speaking on Premier League Productions [30 October] after the game, Wright called for Moyes to switch to a 4-4-2 formation after Antonio “made a difference” following his introduction.

West Ham

“Michail Antonio came on and made a difference,” he said.

“I would like West Ham to play both Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca together in a 4-4-2 and have a bit of a go.”

Please

Wrighty, you’re not along in asking for that, because the fans have been doing it all season.

It’s quite clear that the team has a problem with scoring goals right now, as Scamacca adapts to a new league and country and Jarrod Bowen started the campaign slowly.

The best way to do that would be to give them more support in attack, and Antonio is the perfect foil for both while also being a threat himself.

With the team needing something new, it’s on the manager to be more pro-active and look for new ways to get the best out of the team, so he must try to create a partnership between his two biggest goal threats.

Without anything being changed or tweaked, you’d be crazy to expect different results and that’s how the boss is looking currently. We need to try and change things, and that means getting Antonio on the pitch with Scamacca for an extended period of time.
