Ian Holloway rages over David Moyes treatment after West Ham United chaos

Ian Holloway has heaped praise on David Moyes for overcoming the criticism from West Ham United fans last season, describing it as “managing chaos.”

The Hammers manager took over at the London Stadium in 2019 for his second spell in charge of West Ham and has gone from strength to strength, taking the Irons to the Europa League semi-final before winning the Europa Conference League last season.

A majority of West Ham fans now are eager to praise the Scottish manager’s work, but early in the 2022/23 season there were calls for his sacking and Holloway has admitted that he is frustrated with the treatment Moyes has had throughout his career.

Speaking on the Pitch Side Podcast on Tuesday (17 October) he said: “Whoever tries to follow Pep, you can’t dance in those shoes, can you? I’m sorry, whoever has tried to follow Sir Alex has had it so tough as well you know.

“They never gave Moyesy enough time, they never and that really irks me, Dave is a great friend of mine, and I’m delighted with what he did with West Ham last season, but even West Ham fans halfway through last season, it’s like managing chaos.”

Proving people wrong

It was reasonable for West Ham fans to be frustrated with Moyes’ side’s displays at the beginning of last season as they were struggling domestically and looked to be in a relegation battle and nobody had even contemplated the idea of them winning the Europa Conference League.

Since the Hammers lifted the trophy at the end of the campaign, very few fans have called for Moyes to be sacked as West Ham manager and instead, most are pining for him to extend his deal at the London Stadium beyond this season.

While the likes of Roberto de Zerbi and Eddie Howe are earning heaps of praise for the jobs that they are doing with Brighton and Newcastle, Moyes has put the Irons right in the race for the European places and isn’t quite getting the same credit as other managers around him.

If the Hammers continue to build upon their excellent start to the campaign, the “chaos” that Holloway said was previously at West Ham won’t be present again and if there is one thing you have to say about the London Stadium fanbase, they have been more than willing to admit that they were wrong about the former Manchester United boss.
