Ian Abrahams tells Jim White what West Ham United fans in Seville have said about Chelsea today

West Ham United fans in Seville have been far from sympathetic regarding the breaking news at Chelsea today.

Ian Abrahams is in Spain as the Hammers prepare to take on Sevilla in the Europa League, with other news from London taking centre-stage.

Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK, meaning a takeover at Stamford Bridge cannot go through, not that the Irons care.

Speaking live on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan (10 March, 11:44 am), the host pondered over the big news from the Premier League today.

“The sale of Chelsea football club has been put on hold,” he said. “Does that in any way come up in any conversations you’re overhearing over there?”

Abrahams responded to White with a smile in his tone as he let loose on each conversation he has had in Seville.

“Boys, it’s come up in every single conversation today,” he said. “I left my hotel room to go out for a walk around, the first group of people I met were some very ardent West Ham fans.

“The first thing they said to me was ‘Moose, you seen what’s happened with Chelsea?’ and let’s put it politely, the West Ham fans I’ve spoken to about the Chelsea situation are not very sympathetic.”

Brilliant.

Why should the Irons care about Chelsea and their struggles?

Abramovich has been pumping money into the club for years, and all of this conflict in recent weeks has only brought light into his dealings.

This was the right call on a human basis, never mind financially and taking into account matters on the pitch.

West Ham don’t need the spotlight taking away from them, though, as they prepare for what promises to be the tie of the round against Sevilla.

The Spanish side are one of the most decorated in this competition ever, and getting one over on them in their own back garden tonight would be incredible.

David Moyes and the squad won’t be paying any attention to the news elsewhere, although they will have seen and likely predicted the reaction from those travelling Hammers.

That means nothing come kick-off though, and it is time to get stuck in and bring a positive result back to London.
