Hoddle makes bold claim over where West Ham will finish in the PL

Former Tottenham midfielder Glenn Hoddle believes West Ham can finish ‘sixth or seventh’ in the Premier League this season.

The Hammers could move up to fifth with a win over Aston Villa on Monday night and Hoddle believes that David Moyes’ side could finish there or thereabouts this season.

Speaking in the Evening Standard, Hoddle claimed that there is a ‘belief’ at the club and praised the work of Moyes.

He said, “I do not think they will be down the bottom or have that relegation fight they had last year. David has got this back five that is working well for them and he is not looking to change the team. OK, a few injuries and there is a tweak here and there.

“Michail Antonio has been outstanding, Sebastien Haller has come in and down his bit, the midfield does not change that much at all so there is continuity there and there is a belief about West Ham.

“I can see them finishing in the top 10, without any shadow of a doubt. Maybe even sixth or seventh the way they have been going. They are very well organised and they have a nice balance between defending well and attacking teams as well. I really think David is doing a good job at the moment.”

With this unpredictable season, it is entirely possible that the Hammers could push for Europe but it equally possible for the Irons to lose a few games and be cut adrift from the rest of the clubs chasing those European spots.

This season, Moyes’ side have already taken points off Leicester, Manchester City and Tottenham, all of whom qualified for Europe last season.

This suggests that West Ham can hold their own against these sides and if they can find some consistency then they could take that next step and challenge in the top half of the table.

Challenging for Europe would signal a massive turnaround by Moyes after the club narrowly survived relegation last season.

All the noises coming out of the club are positive at the moment which makes a nice change, hopefully, this is reflected on the pitch with a convincing win over Villa on Monday.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes has spoken of his desire to take the Hammers to Europe.
