Henry Winter moots ‘absolutely pointless’ Arsenal scenario v West Ham United

Henry Winter stated that Arsenal must continue their good form against West Ham but admitted it is not always possible to “completely predict” Premier League results.

The Hammers are searching for their first win in all competitions since a 2-0 victory over the Gunners in December, with Mikel Arteta’s side looking to build on a 3-1 win against Liverpool on Sunday 4 February.

The Times journalist acknowledged that a loss to West Ham on Sunday 11 February, one week after a key result against the Reds, would be “absolutely pointless”.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Sunday (11 February, 10:54am), he said: “That’s the glory of the Premier League – you can’t completely predict anything with great certainty, maybe apart from Manchester City.

“Arsenal need to maintain their form. It would be absolutely pointless to produce that kind of performance, tactically, emotionally, physically, against Liverpool and not following up the week after.”

Attacking Arsenal on show at West Ham

The Hammers have an extremely difficult challenge on their hands at London Stadium on Sunday 11 February. Off the back of a key win over Premier League title chasers, Liverpool, Arsenal will be smelling blood.

Recent history would suggest that David Moyes has a very real chance of thwarting the visitors, with West Ham winning two of the last three meetings, and drawing the third too.

However, form would flip the tie on its head, with Arsenal boasting three wins from their last three matches, taking all nine points from Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

David Moyes has largely has a successful second spell in charge of West Ham United but things have taken a turn for the worse now.

If the home side are to complete their first victory since December, the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohamed Kudus, Kurt Zouma and Alphonse Areola must be on the top of their games. Without the ever-present Lucas Paqueta still, due to injury, the other attackers must step up in his absence.

While Arsenal are certainly the favourites against West Ham, weirder results have happened. The London Stadium should be electric, even despite the Hammers’ poor form recently.

In other West Ham news, a first-teamer reportedly received a big-money offer to leave London Stadium in January.
