He once scored four goals against Real Madrid, now West Ham want him to save their season

West Ham are in a desperate position at the bottom of the Premier League table, and arguably only a positive January transfer window could save them.

West Ham played out a 2-2 draw against Brighton on Tuesday, with Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 defeat to Everton narrowing the gap to just four points.

It’s a rescuable position at this stage of the campaign, but Nuno Espirito Santo knows how important it is to reinforce his squad in January.

Unsurprisingly, West Ham have placed a striker on their transfer wish list, and one name has emerged as a possible new signing in recent days.

West Ham target Taty Castellanos once scored four goals vs Real Madrid

To the delight of many supporters, the Hammers are wasting no time at the start of January and are close to confirming their first signing.

West Ham have agreed a deal with Gil Vicente for Pablo, with the striker set to undergo a medical ahead of their relegation six-pointer against Wolves.

Meanwhile, Taty Castellanos is set to undergo a medical at West Ham after David Sullivan agreed a £25.3million plus add-ons transfer for the Lazio centre-forward.

Castellanos has five goal involvements in 11 appearances for the Italian side this term and is someone the Irons have targeted for years.

The 27-year-old has found the net everywhere he’s been, and it was a spell at Girona in the 2022/23 season where he arguably had one of his best career highlights.

In April 2023, Castellanos became the first player to score four goals in a game against Real Madrid this century in a stunning 4-2 win.

That was a special moment for the Argentine, and West Ham fans will want him to repeat them heroics if he moves to the London Stadium.

What else West Ham need in the transfer window

If West Ham can secure deals for Pablo and Castellanos early, attention will then turn to other positions.

There’s no secret that Nuno’s side have struggled defensively in 2025/26, becoming prone to conceding from set pieces, and they require a quality centre-back to challenge the likes of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

West Ham have been linked with Charlie Cresswell in the past, so perhaps they could explore a move for him, but either way, a new defender is needed.

Creativity has also been an issue for the Hammers; therefore, an attacking midfielder could make the difference in the final third.
