West Ham United: Harry Redknapp shares David Moyes sack verdict, rates Europa League prospects

Harry Redknapp is hopeful that David Moyes will stay on as West Ham manager beyond the end of his current contract.

Moyes is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but he recently revealed he has been offered a new deal at London Stadium.

The decision on whether the Scotsman stays or goes ultimately comes down to him, but ex-United boss Redknapp wants him to remain in place.

Asked by talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams if Moyes should stay or go, as shared via his personal Twitter page [1 March], Redknapp replied: “Stay.”

Redknapp then went on to add: “Hopefully he stays. David will make his own mind up.

“He may not be happy with how things have gone and want a change. We’ll see what happens.”

Commenting on West Ham’s Europa League prospects, Redknapp said: “They’ve got a chance in the Europa League with Freiburg – they’ll beat them and they have a chance.”

David Moyes deliberating over West Ham future

Moyes delivered the happiest day of many West Ham fans’ football-supporting lives with last season’s Europa Conference League triumph.

The terrible start to 2024 meant that doubts were raised over his future, although in fairness last week’s win over Brentford was a return to form.

West Ham are still well positioned in the Premier League and, arguably more importantly, they are still active in Europe.

The Europa League is proving to be Moyes’ saving grace, as it presents a chance to go one better than last year in terms of the achievement.

The club feel Moyes is deserving of making his own mind up, and that is fair enough. However, the timing could become an issue.

West Ham cannot afford to enter the summer not knowing if Moyes will be in charge next season or not as it fuels too much uncertainty and speculation.

A decision therefore needs to be made in the coming weeks. Either way, Moyes’ decision will not go down with one half of the fanbase.
