Harry Redknapp sends brutal Jarrod Bowen message to Nuno Espirito Santo – ‘My God’

Harry Redknapp has voiced his concerns about West Ham’s start to the Premier League season.

West Ham lost 2-0 to Brentford on Monday, making it just one win from the opening eight matches for the Hammers.

But it was the sheer lack of competitiveness shown by the Irons that has raised the most worries, with the home side not once appearing capable of causing an issue for the visitors.

Nuno Espirito Santo made several changes to his line-up against Brentford, but the Portuguese coach could not provoke any reaction from his players.

West Ham have now been tipped for Premier League relegation, and it is not hard to see why.

Harry Redknapp delivers stark West Ham message

West Ham have been slammed for their performance against Brentford, but the issues go much further than Monday’s game.

The Hammers have scored just six goals this season so far, whilst shipping a staggering 18 – the most in the Premier League.

And there appears to be no natural starting line-up for Nuno to select, with only El Hadji Malick Diouf and Jarrod Bowen showing any sign of positive form.

Former West Ham manager Redknapp said it best when he told talkSPORT on Wednesday that Nuno has “it all to do”.

“I must be honest Gabby (Agbonlahor),” the 78-year-old, who managed the Hammers between 1994 and 2001, said.

“I look at the team, you take Bowen out of the team, and you start to look at that team and think ‘my God’, it looks a very average team. I must be truthful.

“He’s got his work cut out there, Nuno, you know, he’s gone in there and he’s got it all to do, I think. If he keeps them up and gets them out of trouble, I think that’s a good job.”

Where would West Ham be without Jarrod Bowen?

West Ham can be incredibly grateful that they are still able to call Bowen their captain. The England international easily could have left for one of the Premier League’s top clubs had he demanded a move.

Luckily, the winger has always remained loyal to the Irons and has saved them time and time again.

Without the forward’s goals this season, West Ham would have just three points to their name, but last season paints a far better picture of the Hammers’ reliance on the 28-year-old.

Remove all of Bowen’s goals and assists last season, and Graham Potter‘s side would have finished a massive 16 points worse off, avoiding relegation by just two points.

And that is not to include all of the games in which Bowen’s contribution prevented a late equaliser that ultimately could have sent West Ham to the Championship.

Starting at Leeds on Friday, the Irons must simply start winning games, no matter how they do it.
