Harry Redknapp drops West Ham relegation verdict after what he saw vs Manchester United

West Ham have been at threat of relegation throughout this Premier League season.

There is still a firm chance that West Ham face a drop to the Championship in the summer after such a poor start to the campaign.

Plenty of results have raised massive questions, with West Ham’s 3-0 defeat away to Wolves being arguably the worst of the year.

That saw Nuno Espirito Santo face the pressure of the sack at West Ham, but things have certainly turned around in recent weeks.

Harry Redknapp watched on as Manchester United stole a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium and has now revealed his thoughts on the Irons’ relegation potential.

Harry Redknapp backs West Ham for survival

Man United snatched a draw against West Ham on Tuesday as a late Benjamin Sesko goal made sure the points were shared in E20.

The second half substitute flicked a superb effort past Mads Hermansen on 96 minutes to cancel out Tomas Soucek’s earlier opener.

The Hammers were good value for a point, and either side could argue they deserved all three, but it was a blow for Nuno to concede so late.

That is still no mean feat against one of the form sides in the division, especially having picked up three wins from the previous four outings.

It is the improvement in performances and results that have impressed Redknapp, who has told talkSPORT he can see the Irons surviving in the Premier League this season.

He said: “They’ve got a big chance [of staying up]. They’ve hit form at the right time; they should have won at Chelsea, but their performances have been good.

They’re in great form. The crowd is behind them; they should have beaten Man United. A month ago, I would have said they were going down; they really did look like they were bang in it.

They’ve turned it around, their confidence is high. Things are looking ok at West Ham, it’s great.

Nuno still has work to do to avoid relegation

Redknapp may be confident, but there are still 12 games remaining in this Premier League season for the Irons to get through.

They are still sitting two points behind Nottingham Forest, but Sean Dyche’s side has a game in hand against Wolves coming up on Wednesday.

That could see the Reds extend their spot above the bottom three to five points, leaving the Hammers with an increasingly big uphill battle.

Nuno has to continue to get the best out of his players and hope that a run of nine points from 15 can continue moving into the business end of the campaign.
