‘Hallelujah’ – These West Ham fans rejoice over official Monday confirmation
West Ham confirmed on Monday that goalkeeper Roberto has left the club to join Spanish outfit Alaves on loan, and it’s fair to say that many supporters are absolutely delighted by the news.
The Spaniard only signed for the Hammers over the summer, but endured a dreadful run in the first team after Lukasz Fabianski suffered an injury in a Premier League clash against Bournemouth in September.
What followed was a disastrous spell for Roberto that happened to coincide with the Irons plummeting towards the relegation zone.
Over the course of his eight matches, the 33-year-old conceded 17 goals, failing to keep a single clean sheet.
He also made two errors leading directly to goals and put one in his own net, as per the Premier League themselves.
But his issues went beyond keeping the ball out of his net.
According to The Other 14, Roberto did not make a single high claim during his time in the Premier League, and only averaged one punch per match.
Moreover, his long pass accuracy was 30%, meaning that 7/10 of his long ball distribution went astray.
Those numbers paint a picture of a player who is not only shaky between the sticks, but also lacks the confidence needed to inspire belief from his defenders, and as soon as that becomes the case, a keeper is doomed to fail.
