Graham Potter surprises nobody at West Ham with what happened on first Sweden outing vs Denmark

Graham Potter fell to defeat with Sweden in his first match as head coach since being sacked by West Ham.

Potter was let go by West Ham in September after a shocking start to the Premier League season at the London Stadium.

The Englishman has since been replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo as West Ham boss, with the Portuguese head coach facing similar problems in E20.

Potter has become the Sweden manager since leaving East London, but has been forced to wait until the November international break for his maiden voyage.

It is fair to say that Potter faced choppy waters on his debut as the Blue and Yellow fell to heavy defeat against Denmark on Saturday.

Graham Potter oversaw Sweden defeat vs Denmark

Potter almost immediately landed a new job after leaving West Ham as he made a surprise move to the international stage.

The 50-year-old can speak Swedish and is famed for his seven-year spell with Ostersunds before making his switch to England with Swansea City in 2018.

He has had some positive times since returning home, with his spells with the Welsh side and Brighton being particularly positive.

His recent experiences with Chelsea and West Ham have seriously damaged his reputation, causing surprise when he was handed the Sweden job after departing E20.

Potter kicked off his international football managerial career in the worst possible fashion as Sweden lost 4-1 to Switzerland in a World Cup Qualification clash.

Breel Embolo put the home side 1-0 up after just 13 minutes before Benjamin Nygren levelled the score just 20 minutes later, but that is as good as it got for Potter’s side.

The away outfit went on to concede three second-half goals and suffer a heavy defeat, leaving the Blue and Yellows bottom of their group with just one point.

West Ham fans won’t be surprised by Potter failings with Sweden

To see a Potter side have a lack of possession and fail to better their opposition in any attacking stats is hardly a surprise.

West Ham fans became accustomed to this sort of performance throughout the Englishman’s reign in East London.

The Sweden boss had a shocking win record with the claret and blue outfit, something which he will want to better on the international stage.

Should his side continue to perform as they did against Denmark, that doesn’t look like it will change any time soon.

Potter has serious work to do, but West Ham fans could have told the Swede’s precisely what was going to go down as soon as the appointment was confirmed.
