Graham Potter shares exact thoughts on West Ham sack in first words on London Stadium exit
Graham Potter has suggested that he knew what was coming before his West Ham sacking in his first words on his departure from East London.
West Ham sacked Potter after an abysmal start to the season, and David Sullivan chose Nuno Espirito Santo to be his successor.
Despite Nuno’s positive start at E20, he still has work to do, as Potter left West Ham in a Premier League relegation battle.
Sweden have since appointed Potter to be their head coach ahead of recent World Cup qualification matches, and the ex-Hammers boss has now reflected on his exit from the London Stadium.

Graham Potter says he knew the ‘consequences’ amid West Ham pressure
Sometimes in football, things just don’t go your way, and Potter was unable to show his worth at West Ham, although he had impressed previously as Brighton boss.
After a torrid string of results, Sullivan eventually pulled the trigger on Potter in September, leaving the latter with a terrible West Ham record.
- Potter was dismissed on 27 September
- He won just six out of 23 Premier League games for West Ham
- West Ham appointed Nuno on the same day they sacked Potter
Speaking at a press conference for Sweden, Potter addressed the decision made by West Ham in footage now circulating on X.
Potter said: “No regrets, Everything’s a learning experience. Fantastic club with some great people. Really enjoyed myself there.
“It’s football, if you don’t win enough, then we all know the consequences as a head coach, and I respect their decision.”
Hammers fans may be surprised by his remarks, though Sweden’s results won’t shock anyone familiar with West Ham.
Potter has yet to guide Sweden to victory
It wasn’t personal with Potter, he just wasn’t good enough to lead the Irons – it’s as simple as that.
The football was poor, too much focus on possession with a lack of chance creation, goals, and defensive solidarity.
It seems like Potter’s poor form at E20 has now translated to Sweden’s latest performances.
| Game | Result |
| Switzerland vs Sweden | 4-1 Loss |
| Sweden vs Slovenia | 1-1 Draw |
Potter started his professional managerial career in Sweden with Ostersunds FK, and clearly made a mark on officials to appoint him as head coach of the national team.
The former Chelsea boss has so far failed to win either of his games in charge of Sweden and was bailed out by a late equaliser in the latest 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday.
West Ham fans won’t forget Potter, but not for the right reasons.
