Graham Potter sacked by phone as West Ham cost reveal emerges for ‘mass exodus’

The timing of Graham Potter’s dismissal by West Ham came as a shock to everyone associated with the Irons on Saturday.

Potter had been preparing to face Everton on Monday evening, and it was understood that the players were happy with the 51-year-old.

Just hours after his exit on 27 September, Nuno Espirito Santo was confirmed as the new West Ham manager and was in charge of Saturday’s training.

The Hammers’ hierarchy have already come under fire for their treatment of Potter, which has caused plenty of backlash.

Graham Potter sacked on phone by Karren Brady

Richard Keys was critical of David Sullivan’s decision to move on from their third permanent manager in 18 months.

Sullivan and Karren Brady have been under pressure to make big changes at the London Stadium and continue to leave supporters disappointed.

Brady was ridiculed for her initial comments on Potter, as she claimed he was a winner and would help them get back towards the right end of the table.

According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, the businesswoman dismissed Potter over the phone as he walked into training at Rush Green.

The 50-year-old was unaware of activity behind the scenes, with the Irons beginning talks with Nuno in the days before.

Delays in the appointment have been due to the size of his backroom staff, and the cost of dismissing Potter is not as huge as expected.

He has left alongside his staff in a mass exodus, according to Nixon.

Where will Graham Potter go next?

Potter had six months away from football after he was sacked by Chelsea before he joined West Ham.

He reportedly had multiple offers to return but waited for an option that suited him.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him take some time out again before returning to management next summer.

After multiple unsuccessful spells in the Premier League, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him drop back into the Championship or manage abroad.

When he was first brought to East London, supporters hoped he would be able to turn things around.

With Nuno at the helm, the Hammers now have an ideal opportunity to return to the top half of the Premier League, but they will need to get over some hurdles before doing so.
