Graham Potter break clause mooted as West Ham board target unlikely in new sack latest

Graham Potter is on very thin ice at West Ham United.

It is fair to say that Potter was already under pressure of the sack at West Ham before Crystal Palace rocked up to the London Stadium.

A positive result was always going to be demanded in E20, but instead West Ham fell to a 2-1 defeat to Palace despite a Jarrod Bowen equaliser.

This has seen further scrutiny build around Potter, with West Ham sounding out the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo as a potential replacement.

There is still every chance now that the Englishman could be set to remain in the East London dugout, as David Sullivan evaluates all of his options.

Graham Potter break clause details emerge

There is no hiding away from how poor the Irons have been this campaign, with the Palace defeat representing yet another blow.

As a result, Slaven Bilic has been linked with a short-term return, just to try and stabilise things.

With that being said, Potter could still be in for a longer stint in his role at the London Stadium after the latest update.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol reported on 21 September that a target was set by the board to take four or five points away from clashes against Palace, Everton and Arsenal.

That is said to look increasingly more difficult to achieve already, but no decision has been made about the ex-Chelsea boss’ future on the back of this.

Given that the English head coach signed a two-and-a-half-year contract in January, the deal is likely to feature a break clause after 18 months.

Graham Potter just can’t stick around at West Ham

Unfortunately, there has been such a lack of positivity since the former Brighton manager came in that there is little for fans to hang their hat on.

It is hard to think of much that Potter has contributed to in a positive sense that gives supporters a reason to truly back Potter against the sack.

Graham Potter has a poor record at West Ham

The Palace defeat was the last straw for many, and it looks unlikely to get any better moving forward, especially with the difficulty of upcoming fixtures.

With that being said, it would be the most West Ham thing ever to wait until 18 months into a terrible run to remove the manager due to a break clause, likely to be a cheaper option than a straight sacking.
