Graham Potter bombshell: Major new twist in West Ham contract talks

Graham Potter is stalling over accepting an offer from West Ham United due to the length of the contract, according to The Times.

The Hammers have offered the Englishman their head coach role until the end of the season with an option to extend it for two years.

However, Potter, who was previously open to such an agreement, now wants a two-and-a-half-year deal straight away.

Graham Potter makes U-Turn on West Ham stance

When the Irons initially considered Potter as a replacement for Julen Lopetegui, they refused his request for a long-term contract due to reservations about his managerial credentials.

However, the former Chelsea boss later changed his stance and was willing to take the reins at the London Stadium on a short-term deal as recently as last month.

It appears the 49-year-old has made a U-turn on his stance again in the 11th hour.

The Times reported on 6 January that the East London outfit had put reservations about Potter aside before offering him the job.

However, it remains to be seen how they react to his demand for a contract until 2027.

David Sullivan and co might be forced to look at alternatives if Potter does not ease his stance, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic already sounded out [The Times].

The likes of Terzic, though, do not have the Premier League experience that Potter has.

For the time being, it seems Lopetegui will be in charge of the team for their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday, 10 January.

In other West Ham news, talks over signing this Premier League ace on loan are underway at the London Stadium.
